Why its important to implement
Visitor logbook creates safety record for emergencies. Staff member collection from reception ensures proper supervision. PPE and restricted area briefing required.
Visitor Safety Documentation
Any person that visits the body shop site (any area beyond the car park and reception) must sign into a visitor logbook showing time of arrival and time of departure. This will create a record of all people onsite at any time and confirm they left the site when they signed out, this way if there is an accident or emergency such as a fire there is a record of who is onsite.
Visitor Collection Protocol
It is also good practice to make sure the visitor states who they are visiting and have the staff member collect them from reception.
Visitor PPE and Safety Briefing
The visitor should also be supplied any PPE if needed and advised of any restricted areas.
Business Impact
Customer safety liability exposure if visitor injured or missing during emergency. Legal issues and costly damages from poor visitor management.
Customer Safety
If the business fails to have this log and enforce all visitors sign in, it will be exposed to damages if the person is injured or is missing on the site in the case of an emergency. These situations could lead to costly legal issues.
action steps
Implement visitor sign-in policy, train reception staff on collection protocols, enforce safety compliance with warnings.
Visitor Safety Policy Enforcement
Strong internal warnings if policy not followed once established.
Visitor Sign-in Protocol
Implement a policy and train reception staff that all visitors must sign in before entering the workshop and the person they are visiting should collect them from reception.
