Why its important to implement
Major accident repairs require fuel tank removal. Improper storage near welding/grinding creates fire/explosion risks that could destroy workshop and vehicles.

Fuel storage safety requirements
In the case of larger accident damage, especially to the rear of the vehicle, at times the vehicles fuel tank will need to be removed to allow access to repair or replace areas that are damaged. When fuel or fuel tanks are removed from vehicles the risk of fire and explosion is increased if they are not handled properly. All fuel that is removed from the vehicle should be stored in a tank exclusively for that fuel type (Benzin or Diesel). This storage tank should then be stored in a Dangerous Goods area that is secluded and closed off from the general workshop and any areas where grinding or welding is carried out. This area should be well ventilated and have all appropriate fire extinguishers in place.
Business Impact
Catastrophic profit loss from fires, vehicle/workshop damage, revenue loss, potential work cessation for rebuilding after major incidents.
Profit
If there are any kind of fires, serious or minor damage to vehicles and the workshop will cost the business money and revenue if major fires cease work for rebuilding
Overall Business Impact
Profit is significantly affected when fires occur due to improper fuel storage, causing damage to vehicles and the workshop, loss of revenue, and potential work cessation for rebuilding in case of major fires. Safety compliance through proper dangerous goods storage protects against catastrophic business losses.
action steps
Set up dedicated Dangerous Goods area, train technicians on fuel removal/storage procedures, establish Production Manager enforcement, ensure compliance.
Policy Enforcement
Strong internal warnings if policy not followed once established.
Management Oversight
Production Manager should check and enforce this process.
Safety Training
Implement process and train technicians to remove fuel and fuel tanks and clearly mark where they should be stored.
Safety Infrastructure
Set up Dangerous Goods area.
