Third party tasks listed on job sheet and/or written on vehicle windscreen

Make the steps to improve your overall performance.

Why its important to implement

External services (glass, alignment, ADAS) must be clearly identified to prevent internal technicians from attempting work requiring special certification or warranties.

Clear third party communication

It is important that the production manager and technical staff are informed of any third party tasks and they are shown clearly on the job card or written on the windscreen to remove the risk that the technicians will attempt to remove these items themselves not realising these items are to be done my another party. This will also alert the technical team to check if the third party is booked and on schedule.

Third party service requirements

There are some tasks on and estimate that the business may not handle internally. These may be due to agreements with work providers that require some services to be done by a particular company. The most common tasks taken care of by third parties are: Windscreens and all glass removal and refitting, Wheel alignments, Tyre changes, ADAS and Radar calibrations, Electronic checks, Air-conditioning de-gassing and re-gassing, Vehicle wrapping and signage application, Paint-less dent repair.

Third party scheduling requirements

These tasks need to be scheduled throughout the period of the repair and should be scheduled within the agreed dates the vehicle is on site. All booking should then be scheduled with the BMS.

Business Impact

Productivity loss from misallocated work hours, warranty risks, certification issues, increased idle time, customer dissatisfaction from delays.

Key to key, throughput, general, body and paint productivity

If internal technicians carry out work that is to be done by a third party the the business will be losing productive hours allowed and allocated to another company. Additionally there is the risk that if the internal technicians carry out this work the work may not be warranted. Also the work may be outsourced because certain certification is needed by the technicians

Idle Time

Vehicle siting waiting for third parties to carry out their work will increase idle times

Customer Satisfaction

Customers lose confidence and brand happiness in the business with long 'key to key' time

Overall Business Impact

Key to key, throughput, general, body and paint productivity are affected when internal technicians carry out work allocated to third parties, causing loss of productive hours and potential warranty issues, while work may require specific certification that internal technicians lack. Idle Time increases when vehicles sit waiting for third parties to complete their work. Customer Satisfaction decreases as customers lose confidence and brand happiness due to extended key to key times.
